A Comprehensive Guide: How to Prepare for an Infrared Sauna Session at The Recovery Room in San Diego!

Infrared Sauna at the Recovery Room

Infrared saunas have gained popularity for their numerous health benefits, including detoxification, relaxation, and improved circulation.  However to fully maximize these benefits, proper preparation is key.  In this blog post, we’ll walk you through a step-by-step guide on how to prepare for an infrared sauna session at the Recovery Room located in San Diego to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience.

HYDRATE!

Hydration is Key:

Before stepping into the sauna, it’s crucial to be well hydrated. Drink plenty of water throughout the day to ensure your body is adequately hydrated. Proper hydration helps your body sweat more efficiently and prevents dehydration during the session.

Wear Clothing You're Comfortable In

Choose the Right Clothing:

When it comes to clothing for the sauna, we recommend wearing loose and comfortable clothing made of natural materials, such as cotton or linen. Avoid wearing synthetic materials, as they can trap heat and make you feel uncomfortable. It is also recommended to wear clothing that is easy to remove, such as shorts and a tank top or a swimsuit, as you will be sweating during your session. Some people choose to go into the sauna without any clothing on, but this is a personal choice and not necessary. Make sure to take off shoes before entering the Sauna at the Recovery Room Ultimately, the most important thing is that you feel comfortable and relaxed during your sauna session.

Shower Beforehand:

Take a quick shower to remove any lotions, oils, or cosmetics from your skin. Clean, dry skin allows for better infrared penetration and promotes a more effective sweat response.

Remove Metal Accessories

Take off any metal jewelry, watches, or accessories before entering the sauna.  Metal can heat up quickly and become uncomfortably hot during the session.

Bring a Towel

It’s advisable to bring a towel and sit inside the sauna.  This helps to absorb any sweat and provides a barrier between you and the sauna bench.  Additionally, having a towel to wipe off sweat during the session is essential for maintaining comfort. We offer $2 towel rental if you don't have a towel.

Relax and Breathe

Once inside the sauna, find a comfortable position and focus on deep, slow breaths.  Relax your muscles, and let the heat work its magic. Saunas provide an excellent opportunity for mental relaxation as well, so take advantage of the quiet time to clear your mind.

 Mind the Time

The infrared sauna therapy session at The Recovery Room is 30 minutes long and the temperature rises to a 158 deg F. If you're a beginner to heat exposure , we recommend stepping out of the sauna for a brief second if you are feeling too hot. Listen to your body, and don’t hesitate to leave the sauna if you start feeling uncomfortable. Gradually increase the duration as your body becomes accustomed to the heat.

HYDRATE AGAIN!

Post Sauna Hydration

After your session, rehydrate your body by drinking water or electrolyte rich beverages.  This helps replenish fluids lost during sweating and supports the body’s natural detoxification process.

Cool Down Gradually

Allow your body to cool down gradually after the sauna session.  Take a lukewarm shower or simply relax for a few minutes before engaging in any strenuous activities.
